Rites of Initiation in the Euchological Tradition in the Historical Eparchy of Mukachevo

This article aims to analyze the rite of Christian initiation in the liturgical tradition of the Eparchy of Mukačevo, with particular attention to euchological documentation. The research initially focuses on the manuscript sources that were in use in the region, considering the position and organization of the rites within the liturgical texts.

The variety found in the titles, sequences, and placement of the rites highlights a rich local diversity. The analysis is limited to the rites closely linked to Christian initiation, namely the rites of the catechumenate, baptism, chrismation, and, in some cases, tonsure, as the latter were sometimes celebrated together in the euchological manuscripts.
Related aspects, such as rites connected to the stages of infancy, maternal care, and the support given during childbirth, are excluded from this study and will be explored in depth in a future article.
